GENERAL
INFORMATION:
Chubut river is born in the Andes Range and meanders
along the Patagonian plateau for more than 500 miles
from the west to the Southern Atlantic Ocean, at Rawson
City, about 60 miles before reaching the ocean, the
river is interrupted by the Florentino Ameghino dam.
From that dam, it is called the inferior basin of Chubut
River. In this last section, between 40000 and 50000
young rainbow and brown trout have been sowed every
year for several decades, which have adapted and developed
very well, sharing the habitat with perch and pejerrey.
What really calls the angler´s attention is the great
amount of big fish, much bigger than in most fisheries
in Patagonia.
The trout in the inferior section of Chubut River
are very strong and combative. The most profitable
technique to fish from the boat is casting towards the
coast. In weedy areas, let the fly drift dead and start
retrieving gently. Strikes usually happen when you start
retrieving or right before pulling the fly up to cast
again. That´s why we suggest being always alert when
it comes to pulling the line up close to the boat. The
average weight of the trout is 3 pounds. Barbed
fishing is not allowed in Chubut Province and catch-and-release
is compulsory in Chubut River.
PACKAGE:
We recommend a 2-day / 1-night package, spending the
night in tents. 6 miles downstream of the river are
fished in each fishing day. The fishing is done from
fully-equipped catarraf boats or by wading (depending
on the level of water).

Fly Fishing tackle and
Equipment:
Wading
All of our fishing is in rivers and streams, wading
from the coast and sometimes on floating trips and float-tubing.
One pair of fly weight chest waders and one pair of
neoprene chest waders is recommended. The new waders
"non-condensation" is the best for walking. The comfort
of your wading shoes is very important also.
Rods
Bring 2-3 rods. A good combination is:
-- 8-91/2; 4/5 weight for dry flies and nymphs.
-- 9-91/2; 6/7 weight for Boca or streamer fishing.
-- 8-9; 3-4 weight for spring creeks and small flies.
Lines
We suggest:
--Floating lines for each rod.
--Sink tip lines 5-8. (like Scientific Angler Ultra
2 wet tip IV 10 or Tenny Nymph Tip)
--Shooting head sink tip line 7-8 weight (Teeny T200
or T300 or shooting line sink V).
--Optional: Intermediate sinking line. Baking 75 - 100
yards is sufficient.
Leaders
From 4 to 12 feet long. Tippet material is extremely
important in Argentina. The trout are very strong and
powerful. Your tippet material should be sheer resistant
as well as have the maximum breaking strength in small
daymeters.

Bring plenty of flies. You can lose 6-10 flies a day
on snags, in trees, by breaking off fish or on stones.
Streamers: Wooky
Bugger, black and olive (from size # 4 to 10); Rabbits,
cinnamon and black (size #2 to 8); Matukas, green and
