GENERAL
INFORMATION:
Ponoi river has grown to be recognized as one of
the great Atlantic salmon rivers in the world today.
The Ponoi River with an overall length of 250 miles
is the longest river on the Kola Peninsula. With
numerous lakes in the system, waterflow is very stable
and remains nearly unaffected by rain or dry conditions.
The river provides the opportunity to fish wading, bank
casting or boat fishing, offering productive pools and
the confluence of rivers and streams. Wildlife is prolific
and from May through the summer the area is practically
invaded by a variety of birds of all kinds from ducks
and songbirds to falcon and eagles. The river is home
to an amazing amount of salmon, leaving anglers astonished
when they see them swim by.
The fishing starts in late May and runs through June,
when the fishing results are unique. Anglers have reported
as many as 75 salmon in a single day. In July, the temperature
rises. So dry fly fishing has proved to be very effective.
The catches are usually bigger weighing between 7
and 15 pounds, with some surprises, such as 24-pound
salmon. Double-handed rods are used effectively
here, but this river does not require heavy tackles.

the camp. Guiding can be arranged after dinner Ponoi
River operates a strict catch and release policy.

we recommend taking both light and warm clothes. Temperatures
may vary from 10º below zero to 28º.

ACCOMMODATION:
There
are two alternatives: Acha Camp, situated at
the junction where Acha River enters the Ponoi. The
camp offers accommodation for up to 10 anglers in well-equipped
wooden cabins, with comfortable beds, stoves, a new
dining house, salmon bar, a fly tying corner and a sofa.
The other camp is called Pacha camp and is situated
just upstream Acha Camp. The fishing is more or less
the same. It accommodates up to 10 anglers and the cabbins
are more luxurious than the ones in Acha Camp, with
twin beds and heated by stoves. In July and early August
